Why You Did Great In Your MemberWhen Conversation

Best Practices | Our Company

You just wrapped up a conversation with your MemberWhen Storyographer. You put your phone down and suddenly think, “I didn’t say anything useful. I sounded terrible. My gift for my mom is ruined!” Fear not! You did great and I’m going to tell you why.

We Edit

At MemberWhen, we edit your conversation with your Storyographer to create your completed MemberWhen episode. That means that any “Umm…” “Well…” or, “Shoot let me think a second…” can be taken out if it distracts from the memory or thought that you’re sharing.

Consider the example below:

This is the original unedited audio of a MemberWhen customer speaking about his wife. There’s nothing “bad” about this clip but it does have a few long pauses, some stuttering, and a lot of “umms…”. It’s the kind of thing that makes people think, “I didn’t sound good in my conversation!”

Now listen to the edited version of that same clip:

A few words here or there have been cut out and the long pauses have been removed. The sentiment is completely the same, but the words have been cleaned up a little bit. We use editing to help you sound your best so that you can focus on what you want to say rather than how you need to say it.

You Don’t Have To Do All The Work

Most MemberWhen episodes feature multiple voices sharing their favorite stories and memories. It’s fun to hear all of the voices interact. On top of that, having multiple participants in your MemberWhen means that you don’t have to do all of the work when it comes to sharing stories.

Say you purchased a MemberWhen episode as a gift for your brother and you decide that the participants will be you, your two parents, and your sister. You’re all going to share your favorite memories about your brother. Maybe you forget to share the story of the time your brother dyed his hair pink– that’s ok because your parents shared that story. And maybe your sister forgot to mention that time your brother nearly ruined Thanksgiving. That’s fine because you told that story as if it just happened yesterday.

You don’t have to remember every little thing. Having different voices tell different stories is one of the best parts of a MemberWhen episode.

Just Be You

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. The best part of any MemberWhen episode… the thing that makes it unforgettable… the secret sauce is… you. Whether you’re giving a MemberWhen episode as a gift or you’re creating something that your children can enjoy decades from now, all you need to do is be yourself and everything is going to be great. The magic of listening to a MemberWhen episode is hearing people you care about be themselves. There’s nothing quite like hearing your dad talk about the time he saw your mom for the first time or hearing your daughter talk about what you mean to her. You don’t need to worry about saying the “right thing.” There are no right answers. Just be yourself and your MemberWhen episode is going to be amazing.
